I Corinthians 15
53For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” 55″Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” 56The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
58Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

It’s a strange moment in our house. I’m sitting in our family room with my husband, one of our sons and his girlfriend, Maria, watching the Super Bowl.

We’re watching the game on tape delay, but I already know the final outcome because I received a text from a friend who said, “How about those Steelers?”

I checked Yahoo and, sure enough, the Steelers won the game. The problem is…..
my husband and son are here cheering wildly for the Cardinals.

They don’t know what I already know.

The Cardinals are going to lose.

The Steelers are going to win.

Oh, how different every play of the game is to me, because I already know the final outcome. It doesn’t really matter who makes an interception, who makes a great pass, what kind of calls the refs make……

I already know the final score.

Isn’t that how life should be for Christians? Paul tells us that we have victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!!

Now that’s a victory we should be pretty excited about!!!!!

Because of this victory Paul tells us to do a few things:

Stand firm! That means know what you believe in and believe in what you know!

Let nothing move you! That means that no matter what the world throws your way…..

You are firmly planted on the Rock!

Give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord. That means do EVERYTHING you do in a way that draws people closer to God.

I dread the moment when my husband and son know what I know about the Super Bowl…..

But not near as much as I dread people finding out that the victory that can be found in Jesus Christ was missed by them because they did not choose to live for Him.

So what do I do?

And what should you do?

I think it’s our job to share the good news that victory is found in Jesus Christ!!!!

For this year, the Steelers have the victory in the NFL.
Last year it was the Giants….and oh, my house celebrated!! Evan is a huge Giants fan!
Next year, who knows who it will be?

But one thing we know that will NEVER, EVER CHANGE!!

Jesus Christ has won the victory over death!

Oh, death where is your victory? Where is your sting?

Thankful to know the One True and Lasting Victor!
